The TLRP/BERA Virtual Learning Environment is based on the Sakai Virtual Collaboration Environment. The Sakai project (http://www.sakaiproject.org) is a global community involving hundreds of universities and other organisations in the development of a platform to support learning, research and collaboration environments.
For a quick overview of the Sakai environment, this short video shows how the various elements work in the University of Cambridge ‘Camtools’ environment – which is very similar to the TLRP/BERA Virtual Research Environment.
If you are looking for help with a specific Sakai Tool (such as Chat, Resources or Wiki), you will find a ‘Help’ option in the left menu of any worksite to which you belong.
If the built-in help does not resolve your problems, the best source of information is the Sakaipedia maintained by the Sakai community (at: http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/confluence/display/ENC/Home).
Some common tasks (such as changing your access rights, setting up a ‘sub-group’ within a worksite, deleting content, or making a site-wide announcement) can be carried out by the Site Contact. If you do not know who this is, click the ‘Site Info’ link on the worksite in question – this should provide a contact email.
For more complicated issues (or if you are a site maintainer and cannot resolve a problem raised by another user) contact the VRE Helpdesk.
